Grantee: Spokane Art School

Project Title: Art on the Street 2019
Year awarded: 2019, Round 1

On eight consecutive Saturday afternoons this summer, Spokane Art School will set up four giant, paper-covered easels on Garland Avenue. Each week, a different professional artist will offer mini lessons to passersby: a 90-120-second lesson on a particular skill, such as shading, composition, or color work. These lessons will be videotaped as “The Art on the Street Lesson for Today” and posted on social media platforms. Photos of the work created will be featured on the school’s growing Facebook and Instagram platforms, furthering the Spokane Art School mission of teaching Spokane to make and enjoy art.

A wide variety of drawing and painting materials will be provided by the school as they expect to host hundreds of aspiring artists Saturday afternoons from July 13 through August 31.
